Mindful of Our Inner Resources

Comas has often reflected on the power of the connection we make with others during community development.  People tell us:
I felt you believed I could do something, so I was willing to give it a try. Then I believed I could do it myself
I just knew you would listen and be there and not give up

Being a genuine, caring resource for people takes energy and commitment. We have found that the busier we get, the less we tend to look after ourselves, and the more we risk losing our focus, concentration and ability to juggle the demands of our work.

That is why we became interested in mindfulness, as a way of enabling staff to see looking after ourselves as a vital aspect of caring for others.

Gillian Mathews (NHS Lothian and Napier University) led a Mindfulness session for staff and volunteers.

We hope to build mindfulness into our routine of organisational development through our people, alongside action learning sets, our holistic performance management framework, and our investment in learning and development for staff and volunteers, whenever resources allow..
