Comas: Parents do the toughest job around..... it takes strength and resilience to see it through
![]() |
The Resilient Parent Project is an action research project which will explore the impact of personal resilience on parenting, and how parents who are struggling can be supported to become more resilient, with a view to strengthening their families.
We have developed this project as a result of our work evaluating multi-agency working to support vulnerable children in Edinburgh. We observed that professionals often focused on what the parent should be doing to support the child, when in many cases the parent's own strength and wellbeing could be a key to improving the situation.
This project is being supported by the City of Edinburgh Fairer Scotland Early Intervention Innovation Fund. Two part-time workers will develop and test an approach to working with individual parents to build their personal resilience, in an eighteen month project.
Sally Sorrie and Jim MacDonald have been appointed as project workers in January.
